PERSONS OF INTEREST
Executive Producer:
Oversees the film's management team as well as accounting and legal issues. Does not usually work on set. Is the liaison between production companies and distributors. Arranges everything needed (including personnel, equipment, and finances) for a film's production. Is responsible for pitching the film to investors, studios, or banks to secure funds or support. Is the final authority on all matters. Producer: Supervises the making of the film as well as all personnel. Assigns or hires people to fulfill certain positions in regards to the project. Co-Producer: Assists the Producer with his/her responsibilities. Director: Directs the actors (or Talent) in order to visually portray what the script details. Is responsible for bringing the script to life on camera. Directs principle photography. Assistant Director: Assists the Director in his/her responsibilities. May also be in charge of directing a 2nd Unit that films B-Roll or other sequences. Director of Photography: (Also known as Cinematographer) In charge of planning all the camera angles and lighting. Works in tandem with the Director or Assistant Director to visually create the written script. Usually the principle camera operator. Screenwriter / Writer: Formulates the actual script to be used during production. Works with the Director and Director of Photography to incorporate camera angles, CGI elements, lighting, and etc. into the script. Copywriter: Responsible for marketing the film through various media formats. Assembles promotional materials for press packets as well as maintaining websites or social media accounts. In charge of marketing the film to the general public. Talent: Group comprising the actor or actors. Everyone who appears on camera in any scene is called the "Talent". This includes principal actors as well as Extras. Extra: On-screen talent, but usually does not have any dialogue. Is not a principal actor. Gaffer: This is the film's electrician. In charge of providing power to all electrical equipment on set. Key Grip: Works with the Director of Photography and Location Manager to decide what equipment will be needed for filming. Supervises crew of Grips. Also in charge of securing safety for all cast and crew while on set. Grip: In charge of setting up and taking down all equipment on set. |
Location Manager:
In charge of scouting film locations and securing all necessary permits/releases. Coordinates logistics for the selected locations. Production Designer: Responsible for the overall look of the film. Works directly with the Director, Producer, Director of Photography, Location Manager, and Prop Master to physically create scenes. Prop Master: Purchases or acquires all necessary props to be used in the film. In charge of the physical appearance of the set and maintaining continuity. Works directly with the Production Designer. Cameraman: Operates a camera. The principle camera operator is usually the Director of Photography. Costume Designer: Works directly with the Producer and Production Designer to create appropriate apparel for the film. Make-up Artist: Responsible for applying make-up and prosthetics. Art Director: Works directly with the Production Designer to create the film's overall look during production and in post production. Oversees all visual artistry including CGI, animation, coloring, and visual effects. Draughtsman: Set architect. Draws up building schematics for the set under the supervision of the Art Director. Set Builder: Constructs and maintains the set. Animation Director: Oversees all animation used on the film. Visual Effects Director: Oversees all special effects used during production and in post production. This includes pyrotechnics, chroma screen (green/blue screen) effects, and CGI. Sound Engineer: Is responsible for the recording, mixing, and reproduction of sound. Oversees all audio aspects of the film. Sound Technician: Assists the Sound Engineer and operates sound recording devices on set. Film Editor: Works with the Directors and Art Department in sequencing camera shots for the film. Is responsible for assembling the final film product and preparing it for distribution. Film Scorer/Composer: Responsible for creating the musical soundtrack to accompany the film. Composes original music and/or utilizes music that has already been composed (such as classical music, pop music, and etc.). Works under the supervision of the Director. |
